History
Family History:
The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black spans back generations of inbreeding and wealth. The most notorious name in all Pureblood lineages, all Blacks are brought up on the set of family values- superiority, money, and reputation. Anyone who is considered to have shamed the family name is written out of the family tree, and tossed out of house and home. Mother and Father are never warm, comforting words, or ever replaced with the affectionate terms of Mummy and Daddy. They are instead more trainers if anything: they provide you the same lessons that were shoved down their own throats as children. It’s a vicious cycle of regurgitating outdated ideals of purity in blood and living up to what is expected, and no less. Walburga and Orion Black both fully support Voldemort’s cause, though neither have nor will take the Dark Mark or become Death Eaters for purposes of social standing. Having raised the only males to currently exist with the Black name, they are the epitome of pureblood society. They fully encourage their second son, Regulus’s, efforts to be involved in the war, while they attempt to dissolve all of Sirius’s notions about one day joining the war against Voldemort.
Character History:
Sirius was raised in the typical aristocratic, pureblooded fashion- nannies, tutors, and lessons on blood purity and filthy, despicable muggleborns. He was raised closely with his cousins Bellatrix, Andromeda, and Narcissa, a source of constant annoyance who spouted the same nonsense as his parents. As a young child he often questioned the idea of muggles being of less intrinsic value, however after many inquiries, he spoke out less and less, for fear of the physical consequences. Of course, whenever he was alone with his brother, where neither Kreacher (a house elf Sirius always despised) nor his parents could hear, he’d teach his own theories, at the time only a very watered down version of what they already were told. Regulus is now his last hope for a line of wizards he otherwise despises with every fibre of his being. He holds a deep rooted fondness for the little brother he grew up and helped to raise that is rarely spoken of or acknowledged. It was only when he first came to Hogwarts and was sorted into Gryffindor that he shed himself of all his parents told him to believe. It was the reaction from his parents, his entire family, the ridicule he endured which ended his own censorship, and, more than any other repercussion, the way his brother began to question Sirius’s opinions versus their parents that pushed him past his limit. He began to look to his best friend James Potter for guidance, all the while keeping the arrogant attitude he was raised upon. Together, James, Sirius, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew formed the Marauders, and in their last five years of schooling have only grown closer, and more eager to cause havoc around the school. However behind all the jokes and pranks, Sirius is still looked upon by his family every time he leaves the haven of Hogwarts, and is being pushed closer and closer to snapping the more he stays with and is made to obey these people that mean less to him than Severus Snape, the boy he and James have fundamentally tortured since their first year. Snivellus, at least, provides him entertainment.
Personality & Defining Characteristics
Physical Attributes:
Sirius suspects that, had he lived in Ancient Greece, statues would have been created in his image. He once hatched a plot to get the house elves carve him into a fresh block of marble, in fact, a nice little monument to all of the Marauders; however McGonagall put a stop to that before they got half way done with the faces. (It was meant to be Jamie’s birthday present.) Truly, he is a sight to behold, as begrudging as it is to admit most of the time, the way his ego is inflated already.
He stands at just above 6’0”, making him taller than his friends; he enjoys to hang his precious extra inches above their heads should a question of leadership come to the forefront (because his height makes him a perfect candidate to lead, of course). He has no real muscular build, having never been into Quidditch, or athletics, or the rigorous dedication of actually working to keep a figure. Instead, he has graciously proportioned limbs, a long torso, and keeps off any unsightly chub thanks partially to a teenaged boy metabolism, and for the last few years, because of his animagus form (as Padfoot has a fondness for catch and tag and trap the stag and force him to be your bitch).
His features identify him clearly as a Black: A straight, aristocratic nose; unblemished skin, as puberty rarely took hold of Blacks; grey eyes; thick eyelashes; and even thicker black hair, coming off his scalp in wispy, loose curls. He keeps his lair long for the most part, forgoing haircuts especially when under emotional duress, currently his hair reaches halfway down his neck. His record length was four inches past his shoulders, before his mother had Kreacher hold him down and hacked it off to three inches in a fit of rage.
Ben Barnes.
Personality:
Lily Evans had once described him (to her own head-over-heals dormmates, for the record) as a pig-headed, egotistical chauvinist. While she wasn’t far off, arrogant and mischievous just about covers it in regards to the general public and just plain sounds better. Sirius’s main motivation is making things fun for himself, and he rarely gives regards to anyone save his own small circle of the Marauders. If a laugh can be had for the expense of someone’s feelings, especially someone he disagrees with, he’s all for it.
Like any true-to-form Gryffindor, he is brave and fiercely loyal, to the point of stupidity and self-destruction. Were he capable of stopping himself before speaking his thoughts and care less about asserting his every opinion and moral belief, he’d have a much easier time living in the Black family until graduation.
Sirius’s defining characteristic is his short fuse. He mistakes rash, overly emotional responses as courage and honesty. His friendships with James, Remus, and Peter affect him both negatively and positively in this aspect. Although the three can deal with him easily enough and calm him down if he’s gone too far, his dependency upon them and attachment makes him all the more volatile around others they are close to.
Likes:
Plotting with James, bothering (or otherwise conversing with) Peter, smoking with Remus (an activity he does almost exclusively with his Lycanthrope friend), torturing Snape and other Slytherins, screwing around with his friends.
Dislikes:
Slytherins, pureblood cults, his family, clingy girls, having jizz on his pillow.
Aspirations:
To be independent of his parents. Sirius doesn’t have what most would call ‘direction’ in life.
Fears:
His brother becoming a death eater, his friends leaving him.
Best Memory:
Any night the Marauders stayed up, plotting or just joking about are counted among Sirius’s best memories. The three mean the world to him. If it were anyone else, he could never bring himself to spend his time, previously devoted to himself and his own small rebellion, on other people. Becoming an animagus essentially for Remus could never have happened with different friends, even assuming the situation could have been remotely similar. However among all of these instances, the night they proclaimed themselves both Marauders and friends for life (a term Sirius no longer uses having reached puberty) is a special one, sticking out in his mind as what truly started it all.
Worst Memory:
Fourth year summer. Sirius had just been beaten for talking blaspheme, or rather, being overheard influencing his little brother with the idea that muggles weren’t so bad. He was sent out of the house for the rest of summer, only a week and a half left, and had two choices. He could go stay with his cousins, or he could show up on James’s doorstep. He’d been injured in front of the other boy before, often because of him in fact. It wasn’t showing his friend that he was hurt that was particularly hard, but rather proving to someone he just short of admired that he couldn’t fend for himself, and needed help.
Later, his worst memory is of Regulus giving up on what Sirius considers his own humanity.
After, it is instead learning of his brother’s death.
After that, it will the night he lost his best friends and godson.
Education
Strengths:
Classes dealing with practical wand-work are his forte. Transfiguration, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Charms are his best classes, the three subjects he can grasp without difficulty. Though not the school renowned, top ranking student as he claims he rightfully should be, he is an above average student, and dueler. The ability to think on his feet, and react before considering makes him a fierce dueler, as well as adept bullshitter for essays (when forced to write them himself).
Weaknesses:
Written portions of any class tend to elude Sirius. Ancient Runes, History of Magic, Arithmancy- it isn’t his capability of understanding the subjects (surely, if he bothered to study, he could) that hold him back, but rather his lack of drive to actually work for his grades. Potions, on the other hand, is simply a gap where there should be at least some form of comprehension - nothing connects or makes sense.
Patronus:
A large dog.
Extra's:
Attention must be paid.

Today's schedule was double potions with Slytherin, lunch, transfiguration and CoMC with Hufflepuff. The first class alone should have tipped me off that the day would end horribly. A frustrating subject with a horrid professor and all of Slytherin there to witness it? I should have known. Just during class I could just tell Snape was enjoying watching us work, I’m sure he was having the time of his pathetic existence. Bellatrix and Regulus and those Slytherin bints they’re friends with were sure having their fun as well, I bet. After class, Snape was bemoaning his horrid life, and I just did the right thing. I wasn’t going to lie to the worthless toerag, I told him it was true. He alienates everyone purposefully, why would I sugarcoat it? He isn’t a friend, he isn’t an acquaintance. He’s a stain on the name of wizards everywhere. And he mentioned my family.
It got out of hand from there. Narcissa got involved, even Alice had the gall to ask me to stop, and then insult Peter. I suggested she keep her comments on my friends to herself from now on. Were she one of them, she’d have known from the start to stick up for me in a fight.
Snape continued to show his true colours, even after langlocking me, getting all high and mighty upon us poor muggle lovers. Nymphadora, the brat, got involved in an argument about muggleborns with him. She almost stood up to him, she almost became worth something for a moment or two— and then she did what everyone else did, and just turned a cold shoulder. Everyone went their own way afterwards, but I did see Snape advertising some Dark Arts pamphlets.
Don’t they understand? You can’t turn away. If they don’t grasp that everything they do is wrong, they need to be disposed of, because dark wizards don’t deserve to breathe.
I’ll take care of them if no one else will.
That fight hasn’t ended, it was only started, and got cut short. And I had to deal with Remus and Andromeda being all cutesy. She doesn’t know him, and who does he think he is? Doesn’t he know she’s just too much of a Black? Even today, she didn't speak against Snivellus. She was just saving face, couldn’t show everyone how much she agreed with him. I wouldn’t be surprised. I don’t trust her.
I didn’t have time to talk to Remus about her quite yet. Maybe I’ll let him learn it on his own, he does need to start fending for himself. He’s one of my best mates, truly- he's just so naïve, willing to trust whomever offers because he wants to be accepted. Maybe she’ll slip up in Hogsmeade, which I may now be skipping altogether. One can only hope it’ll be over after that.
